PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, Sarah Doherty is a courageous woman who has not let her handicap slow her down or stand in the way of achieving her goals; and

WHEREAS, through her work as an occupational therapist at Veterans Hospital, Sarah Doherty spreads a message of hope to handicapped and disables veterans; and

WHEREAS, to stay fit and healthy, Sarah Doherty is an active member of the National Handicapped Sports & Recreation Association’s National Ski Team and Soccer Team; and

WHEREAS, by being the first woman in the world to reach the 14,410 foot summit of Mt. Rainier on one leg, Sarah Doherty realized a dream and will serve as an inspiration to us all;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHARLES ROYER, Mayor of the City of Seattle, do hereby proclaim August 31, 1984, SARAH DOHERTY DAY to recognize her drive and accomplishments, and to inspire others to continue striving to achieve their dreams and goals.
